IPhone 14 Plus

Introduction

It appears that the rumors about the release of a larger non-Pro model of the Iphone, rather than a mini model, have come true with the release of the Iphone 14 Plus. It is unclear what Apple’s plan are for a potential mini model in the future. The focus of this review is on the Iphone 14 Plus, the latest addition to the Iphone series.

It seems that the Iphone 14 and Iphone 14 Plus may not be significant updates compared to the previous Iphone 13 models. Both the Iphone 14 and Iphone 14 Plus are powered by the same Apple A15 Bionic chipset and feature OLED displays with similar specifications, including approximately 460ppi, 800 nits brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate. These similarities may lead some to consider the Iphone 14 and Iphone 14 Plus as relatively minor updates to the Iphone 13 series.

There are only a few notable upgrades in the Iphone 14 when compared to the Iphone 13. These include the new primary rear camera from the Iphone 13 Pro, an updated selfie camera with a new lens and autofocus, an additional 2GB of RAM, and the Emergency SOS via satellite feature. These changed may be considered relatively minor updates to the overall design performance of the Iphone 13.

In addition to the upgrades found in the Iphone 14, the Iphone 14 Plus also includes a larger screen and a larger battery. The Plus model includes a screen size similar to the Iphone Max series, although it has a lower refresh rate of 60Hz. These additional features may make the Iphone 14 Plus a more appealing choice for some users compared to the standard Iphone 14.

The selfie camera on the Iphone 14 and Iphone 14 Plus has received an update with a new lens that has a brighter aperture and optical stabilization, as well as the addition of autofocus. Autofocus has not been a feature of the front-facing camera on previous Iphones, but the inclusion of face-ID technology may have provided the necessary assistive technology to make it possible. The addition of autofocus to the front-facing camera may be a welcome improvement for some users.

Apple was one of first major smartphone manufacturers to remove the included headphones and charger from the retail packaging of its devices. If you have a 20W or higher USB-PD power adapter with a USB-C port, it should be compatible with the Iphone 14 Plus for charging. However, if you do not have a compatible adapter, you will need to purchase one separtely.
